Who We Work With

Tsunami Affected Areas

Tsunami BoatsImmediately after the devastation of the Tsunami, SCAD reacted to the disaster, talking to the local people and organising them to ensure that relief measures reached all those affected, and were relevant to their needs.

SCAD Staff and students from the SCAD Group of Institutions moved quickly to provide the initial emergency relief work in the coastal villages of Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Cudalore districts. Occupational equipments were repaired and where washed away, provided, quality education re-established, and counselling and health services provided.

Tsunami Shelters SCAD is now focusing on the long term needs of the community. Livelihoods are being established and alternatives to fishing are being provided for those who cannot or do not want to return to the seas.

SCAD aims to rebuild community infrastructures but also re-build livelihoods to a standard, which is better than they were before the Tsunami struck.
