Quarry Workers

SCAD aims to abolish exploitation of workers. The women working in the quarries of Tuticorin are experiencing terrible conditions of exploitation. Their work is backbreaking as they crack the granite in the scorching heat of the day. For this intensive, punishing work, they receive practically nothing.

SCAD is encouraging these incredible women to put equalled strength and determination into cracking their exploitation. Self Help Groups have been organised and the dedicated support of the Women’s Federation has enabled these workers to demand higher wages. There is still a long journey to travel and no doubt, it will present many hurdles, but with the support and guidance of SCAD, these women will succeed.
