Leprosy Patients
SCAD gathered people who were suffering from leprosy from the bus stands and railway stations and placed them and their families in a village, which has since had a road and electricity provided by the Government. Houses have been built, health facilities are made accessible and Self Help Groups have been organised to facilitate economic growth and empowerment amongst the community. The social stigma assigned them is slowly breaking away.
A monthly stipend is given and goats are provided to create a supplementary income for patients. For those who can take up income generation activities, assistance has been provided by SCAD.
Living with their families, these leprosy victims are enjoying a much improved quality of life, in which they can think confidently of their children’s future success.
