Gypsies
Without disturbing their cultural behaviours SCAD is working with the Gypsy Community to provide them with the freedom they deserve to access community facilities.
We are encouraging legitimate means of earning an income such as bead making and production of handicrafts, which they can sell to help improve their economic status.
Whilst the parents are away, the children have a hostel and elders have houses where they can stay. There is a school attended by over 200 children, which allows for the flexibility and freedom these children need. A regular health service is also available to all.
Self Help Groups have been organised through which financial assistance is organised with funding from SCAD and savings. With support from the Government, SCAD has also facilitated the provision of electricity, voting rights and ration cards.
With a gentle and subtle introduction of the infrastructure and stability other villages enjoy, SCAD is fostering change amongst this downtrodden group, showing them a future which is stable and supportive, where they have access to the amenities that all should have a right to access and benefit from.
