Water
The largest and most threatening problem facing the community is a reliance on rainwater and the fact they have inadequate structures to harvest the little that falls. There is a Government water supply but the infrastructure is inadequate and produces minimum amounts for the villagers.
Women are walking kilometres, or resorting to saline water obtained from bore wells. They are in desperate need of fresh water that is safe to drink so that dehydration and water born diseases, or diseases caused by a scarcity of water are not having a negative impact on health and quality of life.
When relying on rainfall, farmers have to gamble with their livelihood. If the rain does not fall at the right time, whole investments in crops can be lost. Sometimes the rain may not fall at all. Not only does this mean no income, it also means a shortage of food causing hunger and malnourishment.
