Despite the heat, came the most men, the church on Independence Avenue in their best suits, while women wore dresses of traditional African prints. They planned for the Republic of South Sudan to pray, and shortly after midnight, singing the anthem of the new country.
CNN coverage of the celebrations of independence day – Southern Sudan is about eight hours before the Kansas City – would be projected on a screen in the sanctuary of the church.
“We are here until the wee hours,” said Joey Condon, pastor of Grace Church.
The community plans to hold regular religious services for the community north east Old Sudan.
Kori, who was now a U.S. citizen who intended to return to southern Sudan, but it probably will not do it for five or six years. This is, as long as he believes that to take the new land to find its footing.
“You can not achieve overnight,” he said.
Experts say that South Sudan is one of the most developed countries in the world. Only 15 percent of the population illiterate. The new land is about as big as Texas but only has 30 miles of paved roads.
